It still looks like a substantial warmup is coming next week with temperatures reaching around 50 by Tuesday and a lot of melting aided by some rain by Wednesday. Temperatures may not get much above 10 degrees during the day Saturday and a healthy wind from the north-northwest off the lakes may result in snow squalls for parts of our area. Right now, two inches or more seems very likely, and more than four inches of snow seems about 50/50, so that's the ballpark area we're looking at. The National Weather Service has our entire area under a wind chill advisory until late Wednesday morning. This means frostbite in 30 minutes or even less so limit time outdoors and make sure you're completely bundled up. It won't get very strong - gusts of 15-20 mph but with temperatures of 0 to 10 it will feel like -5 to -15 by dawn Wednesday. Whether your temperature is 10 or 0 the wind chill will end up below zero overnight as winds pick up from the southwest. This seems especially likely in parts of eastern Kentucky. Where clouds remain scattered readings could easily reach 0. Where those clouds redevelop temperatures may level off around 10 degrees. The temperature forecast is a bit tricky tonight as some low clouds are breaking up but may redevelop overnight. Watch out even walking to your car, as sidewalks and driveways will be icy as well. Temperatures in the teens heading into the single digits means the salt laid down on roads isn't as effective as it is at higher temperatures, so icy areas can develop quickly. The other threat is icy roads, even ones that trended pretty well earlier today can get icy again tonight now that the sun has set. Stubborn snow showers finally wound down this afternoon and main road conditions improved, but now the cold becomes the big story.Įven with a little sun temperatures couldn't even manage 20 degrees in most locations, and with fresh snow on the ground and an uptick in wind overnight we're expecting a frigid start to Wednesday.
